About us

A journalist with a sane passion for Roman History: this is me, Davide Sarsini.

Italy as the Romans did’ aims to fulfill a big gap. On one side the great interest of visitors for Roman vestiges in Italy. Not just the obvious and overcrowded few but any reminiscence of a fascinating era, when the Italian peninsula and its islands were the core of the Republic and of an Empire that stretched from Britain’s Atlantic Coast to Mesopotamia in the East.

On the other side the scarce and scattered informations in English available, especially if you travel outside of the Archaelogical ‘Grand Tour’. It is difficult to know where to look, to ‘read’ the stones you see or to discover the unimaginable treasures out there.

‘Italy as the Romans did’ is an open process: the hope is that ‘Our Gems’ will multiply and improve in time with the contribution of users and visitors, who are welcome to send suggestions, remarks and their pictures, to levigate and enrich the contents.

At the same time this project is totally open to cooperation with public and private institutions in the effort to promote a divulgation that is free, exhaustive, updated, accurate, clear and accessible. What ‘Italy as the Romans did’ offers is an alternative journey in this amazing and ever surprising country.
